How to Define Your Fashion Style
Share
Fashion style is a topic that can seem overwhelming and scary. Fashion is more than just clothes we put on our bodies; it is a form of self-expression, a way to showcase our personalities and individuality. But sometimes, finding your unique fashion style can be a challenge. With so many trends and styles out there, it can be overwhelming to try and pinpoint what truly speaks to you. That's why it's important to take the time to define your fashion style and create a wardrobe that truly reflects who you are.
The first step in defining your fashion style is to take a look at your current wardrobe and identify the pieces that you feel most comfortable and confident in. What do these pieces have in common? Are they classic and tailored, or more bohemian and free-spirited? Do you gravitate towards bold colors and patterns, or do you prefer a more minimalist aesthetic? By analyzing your favorite pieces, you can start to get a sense of what styles and aesthetics resonate with you the most. While this step seems so simple, don’t overlook it. There is normally a reason you grabbed these pieces and it can be a great indicator of your unique style.
Next, think about the message you want your clothes to convey. Are you drawn to edgy and avant-garde looks that make a statement, or do you prefer a more laid-back and casual vibe? Consider your lifestyle and the activities you engage in on a daily basis. Your fashion style should not only reflect your personality but also be practical and comfortable for your day-to-day life. My office at work is always cold, but Texas is so hot, so layers are my best friend.
Another important aspect of defining your fashion style is considering your body shape and proportions. Certain styles and silhouettes may flatter your figure more than others, so it's essential to understand what works best for you. Experiment with different cuts and shapes to see what looks and feels best on your body. This is an area I sometimes struggle with because the style of clothes I find more appealing do not necessarily look great on my body type. Then I find styles I don’t necessarily love, I get more compliments.
Finally, don't be afraid to experiment and try new things. Be open minded. Fashion is all about self-expression and creativity, so don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone and try new styles and trends. You may discover a new favorite look that you never would have considered before.
Defining your fashion style is an ongoing process that may evolve over time, and that's perfectly okay. The most important thing is to wear what makes you feel confident and comfortable, and to stay true to yourself and your personal sense of style. The worse thing you can do is make a purchase that you won’t wear. These items take up space for items you would otherwise use. So take the time to explore different aesthetics, experiment with new pieces, and have fun with fashion. After all, your style is a way to showcase your unique personality to the world, so why not make it something you truly love?
